A floating bridge will connect both sides of Al Mamzar Beach, marking a first for Dubai, as announced on Monday, June 3. This 200-meter pedestrian bridge will be an innovative addition to the city. Additionally, authorities revealed that Deira will introduce its first 24/7 night beach.
The announcement came after Dubai’s urban planning committee awarded contracts for the development of two of the city’s most popular beaches: Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1. The Dh355-million project will enhance a 4.3km stretch of Al Mamzar Beach and a 1.4km section of Jumeirah 1, with completion expected within 18 months.
During the development, public access to these beaches will be partially restricted, with open areas implementing safety measures for visitors.
The revamped beaches will feature 11km of bicycle and running tracks and a 5km walkway shaded by trees. They will include barbecue areas, fitness zones, children’s play areas, beach rest houses, and seasonal event spaces.
In addition to 1,400 parking spaces, the beaches will benefit from an automatic irrigation system, safety deposit boxes, WiFi, electronic screens, beach rescue services, and 100 security cameras linked to Dubai Municipality and police control rooms.
Authorities have also announced 50 investment opportunities, including water activity leases, commercial kiosks, restaurants, self-service food and beverage machines, advertising spaces, beach seating, and umbrellas.
Last year, Dubai announced an ambitious project to expand its coastline by 400%, aiming to offer 105km of public beaches, up from the current 21km.
Dubai currently has eight public beaches: Khor Al Mamzar, Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1, Umm Suqeim 2, and Jebel Ali.
